Five km far from Gura Humorului is the Voronet Monastery, a historical and artistic monument which best represents the Moldavian architcetural style. It was built between May 26th and September 14th 1488. Stefan promised to raise it 1476, after he had won the battle at Valea Alba Razboieni.

The Metropolitan bishop Grigore Rosea concerned himself with the exterior painting and added the porch in 1547. The grave of Daniil the Hermit, Stefan cel Mare's counsellor, is kept covered with a stone slab in the pronaos.

The monastery is particularly famous for its exterior painting, the frescos that render the Judgement Day, Ieseu's Tree, Sf. Ioan cel Nou's Prayer in a special blue tint, the renown „Voronet blue" that the local master painters obtain by mixing the paint with lapis lazuli.
